The Nude chair was originally tailored for one of Finland’s most prolific chef and restauranteur Pekka Terävä's Nude restaurant in Helsinki, Finland. Made by Choice was commissioned to tailor the interior for this approachable, contemporary Nordic fine-dine and invited interior architects Marianna Sorsa & Salla Kantokorpi to create the interior. Harri Koskinen and Pekka Terävä are long term friends with mutual professional appreciation.

This created optimal circumstances to create this well-crafted, unique, all-around dining chair, that both stacks beautifully and hangs neatly from the tabletop for effortless maintenance of space. Crafted by some of the worlds best artisans in Halikko, Finland leaning on centuries of woodworking traditions.

Valo lounge chair
VALO lounge chair was originally designed for VALO Hotel & Work.

The new sustainable hybrid hotel merges a contemporary hotel and an office, with rooms that can be transformed between the two functions. The dual use applies new demands on furniture - each chair, stool and table had to suit both worlds, both functionally and visually. The Lounge Chair was born.

VALO Lounge Chair is a reinterpretation of Finnish design classics. Built locally from Nordic wood, it has a small carbon footprint. Detachable upholstery can be maintained and replaced easily, giving the lounge chair a long life cycle. And yet the beautiful chair, worthy of its place in a designer hotel room, is much more than just a pretty chair. The angle and length of the seat as well as the armrests are a perfect match for an adjustable laptop desk. The Lounge Chair is as much at home in the VALO hotel room as it is in the VALO meeting room, and any contemporary home.

Kaski lounge chair
Kaski is Joanna Laajisto’s charming combination of rustic aesthetics and clear, modern shapes. The name of the chair is a reference to the olden days in the rural areas of Finland: “Kaski” means slash-and-burn clearing, an agricultural technique that used to be very common in the country.

Named after the hometown of our manufacturing, Halikko series consist of light, sleek and comfy furniture with a simple structure and obscurely quirky characteristics. Based on a 35x35 mm structure in solid oak, Halikko draws a natural continuation of the exploratory work by Choice on straight-forward structures, and expressive graphic surface treatments. Halikko draws its simple characteristics based on pure lines. Halikko is as pleasing to use at home as in collective spaces.

Ella chair
Sandell´s collaboration with Made by Choice started in 2019 when Sandell was commissioned to design the new restaurant Goma in Stockholm. For this project, a custom bar stool was created in close cooperation with Made by Choice. The development of the stool lead to further collaboration, resulting in a collection named “Goma” after the restaurant
comprising a chair, armchair, and the bar stool. The collection was publicly launched during the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2020 where it was nominated for the Born Classic Award. The Pavo Lounge chair was designed by Thomas Sandell for the Goma restaurant as well, while Ella Chair was designed as a stand-alone product.

The Ella Chair, designed by Thomas Sandell, is a testament to fine craftsmanship and timeless design. Made from birch plywood, it features a distinctive curved back rest. The seat is upholstered in cognac leather, giving it a warm finish. Originally designed as a stand-alone product, the Ella Chair is the perfect blend of natural materials and contemporary aesthetics, making it ideal for both home and public spaces.

The bar stool GOMA was created for a restaurant project of the same name. Goma by Miss Voon is an Asian street food and cocktail bar in the heart of Stockholm where the bar stool is a solid piece with a clean and obvious design language. The barstool also has a sibling chair and armchair, all with a strong and distinct character.

The cartoonish Goma bar chair is crafted from birch plywood with a cognac leather seat.

Sieni, meaning mushroom in Finnish, is a collection of furnishings for flexible use in the home, office, or hospitality setting. The forms in the series allude to fungal structures - stems, hypha, caps, and gills. We invite the pieces to take root in space and spread their atmosphere. Curiously soft and hard at the same moment, the pieces beg you to to be handled.

Sana chair
Sana Chair was designed as a dining chair for the new head office of Sana Labs, a company that specializes in learning through AI. The design of the chair has a ceremonial look but also contemporary straightness with its lightness in proportions and the way the different parts are put together. It’s made out of oiled oak wood and natural leather, and the sides are hand painted with a brush. The sides also add privacy.

"Dining together with friends and colleagues is an important social ritual and with this chair,

In addition to the light wood, the other colour option is stained black, which highlights the shape of the product, representative to Laajisto’s work. "A good product has to fit in different environments from the modern and minimalist to rich and classical," explains Laajisto. The simple and modest design language of the Airisto furniture emphasizes the asymmetric shape of the foot structure.

Saku Sysiö drew inspiration for the Lammi bar stool from the place of the same name in southern Finland. Saku has a summer cottage in Lammi and the organic, minimalistic shape of the stool was inspired by a nearby lake. The pond like seat form grows towards the floor with the footrest is like a ring in the water. Lammi is a solid piece of furniture that works well in environments with a softer design language.

Lonna bar stool
Lonna furniture series was originally introduced as part of a café and sauna interior at the historical island of Lonna, right outside the coast of Helsinki. Only recently introduced for the public and now popular destination among young urbanites, this rugged and rocky skerry has a long history serving as a military base and naval demagnetisation station for ships to defend against magnetic mines.

Selma dining chair
Selma chair’s design is a play between the sturdy wooden elements and the light seat and back surfaces supported by them. The considered details in the joints and the downwards-widening legs give the chair
its character.

The Selma chair is an honest and playful interpretation of a dining chair with a strong and recognizable character. 4 points connect the elements and the chair can be easily folded down for flatpack transport and storage. With this I wanted to consider the product’s carbon footprint and the onlinemarket. I aimed to solve the falling structure without compromising the ergonomics, functionality, or the chair’s aesthetics. The chair should also be convenient to make.
