The Laulu cabinet created with swedish designer Matti Klenell is intended for storing, displaying and room dividing. All four sides of the cabinet is covered with a perforated pattern consisting 3296 holes that gives the volume a semi-transparent appearance. The cabinet is constructed from CNC milled Valchromat board with a base in solid wood.

MATTI KLENELL (b. 1972). Since graduation from Konstfack, Stockholm in 1999 Klenell has worked with design commissions for a long list of clients worldwide. It includes companies such as FontanaArte, Iittala, Swedese, Källemo, Moooi, Offecct and Muuto. He has also worked with art direction in various context, most recently or the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm where he was responsible for the re-design of the restaurant interior furnished with a collection of contemporary Swedish design.

Surfaces are built up from hundreds of pine rods which are glued together one at a time on multiple layers. Time-consuming working method enable to create the three-dimensional fluency on the surface.
The surface of the wood is either left untreated, where the aging and patination of the pine is strongly visible, or alternatively it is stained and varnished with sliding coloring.

Inspired by Nordic heritage, the wooden Wakka-sideboards feature ornamental grooves and rounded edges reminiscent of old cheese molds and traditional Finnish bushels. The beauty of these artifacts, which were often crafted by agricultural workers in rural communities, lit the initial spark for the project. Vakka in Finnish means a traditional wooden container. Rekindling age-old aesthetics using modern woodworking techniques, the fishbone grooves form wavy loops that make the contemporary duo visually interesting from all directions.
